One evening, I texted my best friend, and we began discussing the upcoming year. December had already arrived, and we realized we’d only accomplished a few things we’d planned. As we talked about what we wanted to achieve in the new year, she shared a tradition of hers: every New Year’s Eve, she writes a letter to herself to read the following year. She also creates a vision board to stay aligned with her goals throughout the year.
I thought this was such a cool idea. I usually just jot down unrealistic goals or make New Year’s resolutions I never keep. But what if I tried something similar? Could it help me stay on track and even manifest my dreams?
I’ve always loved journaling, especially junk journaling—a mix of scrapbooking and journaling that incorporates everyday finds like receipts, labels, packaging, business cards, and torn papers. I embellish my journals with stickers, washi tape, and other craft supplies I’ve collected over time. As I thought about combining my journaling style with preparing for the new year, I had an idea: I could create vision board spreads throughout my journal and even write a letter to myself to seal inside it. And so, my manifesting journal was born.
What Is a Manifesting Journal?
A manifesting journal is a space where you imagine your dream life and express it creatively to help make it a reality. Whether you scrapbook images, write about your ideal life, or combine both, the idea is to create a visual and emotional representation of what you want to attract into your life.
Manifesting is based on the idea that your thoughts and feelings can influence your reality. Writing down your dreams won’t magically make them come true, but it provides clarity and helps you focus on what steps you need to take to achieve them. A manifesting journal isn’t just about sending good vibes into the universe—it’s a tool for gaining insight, setting intentions, and tracking your progress toward your goals.
What Do You Need to Get Started?
You only need two things to start your manifesting journal:
- A journal
- Something to write with
That’s it! However, I recommend making the process fun and inspiring by adding creative elements:
- Images: Print photos or cut out pictures from magazines that represent your goals (e.g., financial success, a dream vacation, or a healthy lifestyle).
- Scrapbook materials: Use stickers, washi tape, textured papers, or embellishments like metal keys or wax seals.
- Everyday finds: Incorporate receipts, ticket stubs, or other meaningful scraps that align with your vision.
- Art supplies: Add your own drawings or doodles for a personal touch.
What to Include in Your Manifesting Journal
Here are a few ideas to help you organize your journal:
1. Start with a Vision Board Page
Create a spread that visually represents your goals for the year. Include images, words, and symbols that inspire you and align with your intentions.
2. Write a Letter to Yourself
On New Year’s Eve, write a letter to your future self. Reflect on what you hope to achieve and how you want to grow over the next year. Seal it in an envelope and tuck it into your journal to open at the end of the year.
3. Dedicate Sections to Your Goals
Create spreads for specific goals in different areas of your life, such as:
- Health
- Finances
- Relationships
- Career
Use images and affirmations that resonate with each goal.
4. Include a Gratitude Section
Manifestation works best when you cultivate gratitude. Dedicate a section to things you’re thankful for to shift your mindset toward positivity and abundance.
Prompts to Use in Your Manifesting Journal
If you’re unsure how to get started, here are some prompts to inspire you:
- What are my top three goals for the year, and why are they important to me?
- What does my dream life look like?
- What affirmations resonate with me right now?
- What small steps can I take today toward my goals?
Final Thoughts: Create Your Manifesting Journal This December
There’s no right or wrong way to start a manifesting journal—make it your own! This year, I plan to expand on last year’s pages, set new goals, and write another letter to my future self.
December is the perfect time to begin your journal and set the tone for the upcoming year. Whether you go all out with art and embellishments or keep it simple, enjoy the process and make it a reflection of your dreams and intentions.
Have fun creating, and remember: the best way to manifest your dream life is to take the first step toward it.
Stay cozy,
